Terry Matthews is the chairman and/or a director of many high technology companies in the US, Canada and the UK. He is the chairman of March Networks Corporation, a major provider of IP video and business analysis applications and also chairman of Mitel Corporation, a company he co-founded in 1972. Mitel is a leading vendor of VoIP solutions. He served as CEO and chairman of Newbridge Networks Corporation, a company he founded in 1986. Matthews holds an Honours Degree in Electronics from the University of Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Matthews is the founder of Wesley Clover and also of Celtic House International. Both these organizations are early-stage technology venture capital firms with offices in Canada and the United Kingdom.
Amar Bhalla is the President of Capit Investment Corp., an investment management firm focused on private equity and venture capital. He formerly served as Chief Executive Officer of Crescent Logic Inc., a Toronto-based software firm. Prior to joining Crescent Logic, Mr. Bhalla allocated capital in both public and private ventures on behalf of Toronto-based investment groups. He currently sits on the Board of Nyah Resources, TriNorth Capital, Carlaw Capital III, and is the Chair and Lawrence Asset Management’s Independent Review Committee. Mr. Bhalla received his C.F.A. designation in September 2004 and received his B.A. degree from McGill University in June 1999.
Peter Charbonneau has held the position of General Partner at Skypoint Capital Corporation, an early-stage technology venture capital firm, since 2001. Prior to joining Skypoint Capital as Executive Vice President in 2000, he spent 13 years at Newbridge Networks Corporation acting as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President, President, and Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman. Mr. Charbonneau served as a member of Newbridge’s board of directors between 1996 and 2000. He has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario since 1979 and, in 2003, he was elected by the Council as a Fellow of the Institute in recognition of outstanding career achievements and leadership contributions to the community and the profession. Mr. Charbonneau serves on the board of directors of a number of technology companies including BreconRidge Manufacturing Solutions Corporation, Mitel Networks Corporation, TrueContext Corporation, Galazar Networks Inc. and Trellia Networks Inc.
Jon Shantz is a highly respected professional throughout the communications industry. His extensive experience includes most recently the role of senior vice president of business development at Openwave Systems. Prior to Openwave, Shantz served as general manager of the Mobile Business Unit of Cisco Systems. While at Cisco, he developed and led the Cisco Powered Networks, a premier industry alliance program, and spent several years developing new markets for Cisco. Before joining Cisco, Shantz spent 10 years at Bell Labs working in the services development and data networking areas. Prior to Bell, he oversaw the data networking initiatives at British Telecom in the United Kingdom
Ravi Sood is a leading Canadian money manager with an international mandate and a successful track record of generating wealth for his clients. Recognized by his peers as one of the country’s best venture capitalists and financiers, Mr. Sood also gained mindshare as a shareholder activist and a media commentator on the income trust sector. Most recently, Mr. Sood’s thought leadership encompasses India’s investment potential, the agriculture sector and venture capital in Canada. Prior to joining Lawrence in 1998 when the firm was still called Lawrence & Co., Mr. Sood was employed by a major international investment bank. While at Lawrence, Mr. Sood founded and seed-funded several companies in the resources sector, including Buchanan Renewable Energies Inc., Feronia Inc. and Russo-Forest Corporation. He is currently a director of Trinorth Capital Inc., Wildhorse Farms Corporation, and Phoenix Coal Inc., and a non-executive Chairman of Feronia Inc. In his role as President and Chief Operating Officer at Lawrence, a company he co-founded with his partners in 2001, Mr. Sood has provided the direction, leadership and strategy for Lawrence’s investing activities.
