Bring Your Kids To Work

Six Grade 9 students share their thoughts on the ProntoForms experience

November 1, 2017 was “Bring Your Kids To Work Day” all around Canada. Launched in 1994 by The Learning Partnership, this program invites Grade 9 students to “…spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer experiencing and learning about the world of work.”

Six Grade 9 students from High Schools across Canada’s National Capital region spent the day in the ProntoForms office – meeting with our CEO, Alvaro Pombo,  as well as managers from the Sales, Marketing, Legal, and Customer Success teams in a mix of informal chats, discussions, and PowerPoint decks.

The Pronto office offers a few perks for employees and visitors alike, so in addition to the “work” sessions, the kids also took advantage of the ping-pong table, chilling time in the bean-bag chairs, and plenty of free left-over Halloween candy at the Snack Bar. Not to mention cuddles with Jema, the friendly office Golden Doodle.

At the end of the day, we asked the kids what the best part of the day was, and if they had learned anything. Here are a few high-lights:

Taylor, St Francis-Xavier Catholic High School:
“I learned who my uncle works for, but the best part was the hangout times.”

Ainsley, South Carleton High School:
“The best part of today was getting to see where my dad works and what he does (and the dog). I learned what ProntoForms does, and that you should find a job where you really want to be. I don’t know yet what I’d like to be, but I think I’d like to work in science or medical.”

Jesper, Glebe Collegiate Institute:
“I learned the most in the Marketing presentation, but the best part was learning about sales. I liked how he explained how he’s trying to overcome people’s prejudices about stereotypical sales people. He actually sees it as a way to help people. If you’re not there to help people, you shouldn’t be in sales. That was pretty cool.”

Samuel, Mother Teresa High School:
“I learned that ProntoForms specializes in creating, building, operating, and helping. I also learned that ‘The harder you work, the luckier you get'”.

Ben, Glebe Collegiate Institute:
“I learned a bit about what I want my future job to be. Not sure what that is, but something that involves human interaction. Being alone gets boring. But, the best part was the ping-pong!”

Mason, Almonte District HS:
“Things I enjoyed most about today: Alvaro’s speech, I could relate to it the most to since he made us realize we need to love our job. Cindy taught me to make connections, and I made one today for my community hours!
Three things I learned: 1) The harder I work the luckier I will be; 2) Love your career; and 3) Work somewhere I can bring my dog! But, the best part of the day was hanging out with my mom.”
