Sir Terence Matthews

Chairman

Sir Terence Matthews is the founder and Chairman of Wesley Clover, an investment vehicle and holding company. Matthews has either founded or funded over 80 companies since 1972, including Newbridge Networks, a company he founded in 1986 and which became a leader in the worldwide data networking industry. In 1972, before launching Newbridge, Matthews co-founded Mitel, a world leader in the design and manufacture of enterprise communications solutions. Wesley Clover now has interests in a broad range of next-generation technology companies, real estate, hotels, and resorts.

In addition to being the Chairman of Wesley Clover, Matthews is also Chairman or Director of a number of private and publicly traded companies. Matthews holds an honours degree in electronics from the University of Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. In 1994, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, and in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was awarded a Knighthood.

In 2011, he was appointed Patron of the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute.

 

Alvaro Pombo

Alvaro Pombo brings 28 years of leadership and telecommunications experience to ProntoForms. As CEO and Founder, he plays a fundamental role in financing and driving strategy. He is active in research and development, product strategy, and business development.

Prior to founding ProntoForms, Pombo was Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Vice President (VP) of Global Information Technology for the Carrier Internetworking Division of Alcatel-Lucent. He joined the company via its acquisition of Newbridge Networks (Feb 2000; $7.1B). Pombo had been CIO, VP of eCommerce, Director of Electronic Marketing, and Latin American Sales with Newbridge. Under his leadership, the company's e-business organization gained recognition as one of the highlights of the acquisition and helped establish a service-oriented IT model for the company.

Pombo has served as consultant to Palm and other technology leaders, and continues to help nurture entrepreneurs and innovation. Pombo holds several patents and was a winner of the Ottawa Business Journal's 40 Under 40 in 2000. He holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. Additionally, he holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa and an executive degree from Georgetown University.

 

Michael Cristinziano

Michael Cristinziano is Corporate VP, Strategic Development at Citrix Systems, where he is responsible for several corporate functions, including M&A strategy and execution, technology licensing, venture capital investments and investor relations. Cristinziano’s strategic leadership has catalyzed Citrix’s transformation from a single-product tactical supplier to a strategic provider of secure application and data delivery solutions that let people work and play from anywhere using any device. Cristinziano has also held a Managing Director position with BMO Financial Group, where he covered the computer networking and software industries. He has also had roles with Needham & Co., and Telcordia Technologies. Cristinziano earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Temple University, a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and completed post-graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University and Harvard Business School.

 

Jon Shantz

Jon Shantz is a highly respected professional throughout the communications industry. His extensive experience includes most recently the role of Senior Vice President of Business Development at Openwave Systems. Prior to Openwave, Shantz served as General Manager of the Mobile Business Unit of Cisco Systems. While at Cisco, he developed and led the Cisco Powered Networks, a premier industry alliance program, and spent several years developing new markets for Cisco. Before joining Cisco, Shantz spent 10 years at Bell Labs working in the services development and data networking areas. Prior to Bell, he oversaw the data networking initiatives at British Telecom in the United Kingdom.

 

Jim Davies

Member

Jim Davies has worked at Mitel Networks Corporation ("Mitel") since 1998. He has held a number of technology and business-related roles at Mitel, including Director of New Technology, Vice President of R&D, Vice President of Solutions Management, Vice President of SME Business Unit, Chief Strategy Officer, and Chief Technology Officer. Davies was instrumental in starting and driving the VoIP product line at Mitel. Before Mitel, Davies worked at BNR, the research wing of Nortel Networks, in a number of technology and technology management roles. His educational background is undergraduate and postgraduate studies in electrical and mechanical engineering at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

 

Ed Ogonek

Ed Ogonek is a successful senior executive and entrepreneur with a 28-year track record of building high-growth businesses in fast-paced global telecom markets. His leadership experience spans President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) roles at innovative, early-stage companies, and General Manager positions for large multi-national divisions at technology leaders such as Alcatel, Newbridge Networks, and British Telecom. He is currently the President and CEO of CENX and was previously the President and CEO of Bridgewater Systems, where he led the company’s transformation into a global market leader for mobile data software solutions. Bridgewater Systems was ultimately acquired by leading customer experience vendor Amdocs in 2011. Ogonek has been a Board Director in various public and private technology companies, with an emphasis on company strategy, business planning, and business development. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Canada's National Ballet School.

 

Bruce Joyce

Bruce Joyce has been a key player in the growth and success of many major organizations based out of Ottawa, Ontario. Recently, he was the Vice President of Leadership and Human Resources Research for the Conference Board of Canada. Prior to his retirement, he was a partner with Deloitte for 23 years, with terms as the Office Managing Partner for the National Capital Region and Leader of the Federal Government Account. Joyce was the founding Chair of the National Capital chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Joyce is a Fellow of CPA Ontario (formerly the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario) and has a Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University. He has also completed the Directors Education Program through the Institute of Corporate Directors, is Human Resources and Compensation Committee Certified through The Directors College, and completed the Deloitte Competitive Readiness Program taught by the Kellogg School of Management and Columbia Business School. Joyce holds his ICD.D designation and has served on numerous boards. He currently serves as Chair of the Audit Committee of the Auditor General of Canada, on the Board of Armstrong Monitoring Corporation, and on the Board of CounterPath Corporation.

 

Philip Deck

Philip Deck brings over 20 years of experience in technology company operations, leadership, and merchant banking. Deck served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MKS Inc., a leader in enterprise software application lifecycle management, from 2001 until its acquisition by PTC Corp in 2011. From 1993 to 1999, he was CEO of Certicom Corp., a worldwide leader in cryptographic research and software toolkits. Deck served as a Director of the Bank of Canada, Canada’s central bank, from 2006 until 2013, and also held a role as Lead Director. He has also served on the Board of the C.D.
